Allison received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in 2004. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Italian and Art History from Sarah Lawrence College. Allison’s social work career has been spent working with children, teens, adults and families, both in private practice and agency settings. Currently, Allison has her own private psychotherapy practice located in Scarsdale, NY. She focuses on helping children, teens, young adults and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma and negative pervasive thinking patterns that interfere with day-to-day functioning and interpersonal relationships. Allison’s clinical interventions are varied, drawn from Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Family Systems Theory, Object Relations, and Psychodynamic Theory. Allison grew up in California and Nairobi, Kenya. She is a Westchester mom to two secondary-school-aged children.
Abby began her education and career in New York City, obtaining her BA in History and Creative Writing from Columbia and then her Masters in Social Work in 2005 from New York University. Her early career included social service provision in healthcare, crisis helpline, and homeless services organizations. She later obtained a PhD from Duke University in History, studying, teaching and researching modern American public health policy and maternal and infant health practice. After this stint in higher education, she returned in 2012 to clinical practice, working as a psychotherapist in mental health clinics and group practices and in her own private practice. She has done extensive continuing education in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and psychoanalytic group therapy. She has also developed expertise in rape crisis counseling, trauma caused by high control relationships and institutions, and divorce-related mental health issues. Originally from Washington, DC, she has raised three children in Westchester County, who are now high school and college age.
